• 60 YEARS AGO — Stewart Koensgen, Stan Harvey and Craig Brownlee each fired two goals to give the Elks a 6-3 decision over Lions in juvenile hockey action at the Wheat City Arena. Barry Robertson, Gord Derouin and Wayne McGill accounted for the Lions’ three goals.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Foxwarren goalie Ron Shewchuk stopped 30 shots, including a penalty-shot by Souris forward John Dell in the third period, to preserve a 4-3 Falcon victory over the Elks in a SouthWest Hockey League game.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Rob Derksen’s basket with two seconds remaining to play vaulted Vincent Massy Vikings to a 62-58 victory over Crocus Plainsmen in a Brandon High School Basketball League game. Dave Nackoney topped the Vikings with 24 points.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Rob Fleming scored twice and Reynold Debates made 41 saves as the Wawanesa Jets beat the Treherne Raiders 6-4 in a Tiger Hills Hockey League contest.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Kristen Williamson enlisted a little family support to capture the Brandon Ladies Bonspiel. Williamson’s team, missing its regular second Cheryl Isaac, called upon Williamson’s sister Pam to play the role and the rink won its second straight championship at the 70th annual bonspiel with a 4-2 win over the Wheat City’s Gerri Cooke in the final at the Riverview Curling Club.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Jordan Papirny made 33 saves and the Brandon Wheat Kings scored two power-play goals as they beat the Prince Albert Raiders 3-0 at the Art Hauser Centre.
