• 60 YEARS AGO — Bill Robinson, The Brandon Sun’s Sportsman of the Year for 1965, retained his senior men’s title at the Saskatoon Open gymnastic meet. Robinson won every event in which he competed, topping the floor exercises, vault, rings, side horse and parallel bars competitions.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Stella Casselman and her rink of Ruth Alston, Edna Mullett and Freda Crom won the Zone 5 senior ladies curling championship in Deloraine for the second straight year.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Stacy Pratt’s third goal of the game with just less than seven minutes remaining to play snapped a 3-3 tie as the South went on to a 5-3 victory over the North in the NorthCentral Hockey League’s All-Star game at Foxwarren. Eli Tacan’s goal with 40 seconds capped the scoring.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Shane Hamilton had a goal and an assist to in the Brandon Stingers’ 5-2 win over the Souris Elks in a Manitoba Junior B Hockey League game. Terry Luke, Reg Gamblin, Trevor Fosseneuve and Jason Glutek added singles.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Landon Desjardin scored two goals and set up two others to power the Oak Lake Icemen to an 8-3 victory over the Kenton Cougars in the NorthCentral Hockey League.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Jordan Papirny of the Brandon Wheat Kings is the WHL’s nominee for the Vaughn CHL goaltender of the week award. The 19-year-old Edmonton product recorded shutouts in both of the games he played this weekend.
