• 60 YEARS AGO — A&W continued its torrid battle for first place in the Brandon Commercial Broomball League by recording an 8-0 victory over Mental Hospital. Leading the A & W attack was Larrie Pilling with two goals.
• 50 YEARS AGO — The Boissevain Border Kings scored two goals in a SouthWest Hockey League game in the last minute to win a 6-5 decision over the Reston Rockets. Brad Kempthorne and Richie Campbell both scored twice.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Andre Simard and Dave Sharp both scored twice to pace Shilo to a 6-0 victory over the Hyundai Stallions in a Shilo and District Men’s Broomball League game. Barry Keevil earned the shutout for Shilo.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Derek Paterson, Kelly Slimmon, David Kerr and Randy McElroy all scored twice as the Hamiota Huskies bombed the Rossburn Hornets 10-3 in North Central Hockey League action. Jason Smith and Sean Twerdoclib also scored.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Eric Fehr has yet another individual honour to brag about in what turned out to be a memorable 2005. Fehr, the former Brandon Wheat Kings sniper and WHL scoring champion, was named Manitoba’s male athlete of the year Sunday by the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportcasters Association.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Brandon University Bobcats women’s basketball team suffered an 87-81 loss against the Trinity Western University Spartans in Canada West conference play in Langley, B.C. Keisha Cox led Brandon (5-8) with 23 points, while Aleah Bridges chipped in with 16 rebounds and 10 assists points for BU, but the team lost its sixth straight game.
