• 60 YEARS AGO — A and W whipped West End 5-1 to take over sole possession of first place in the Brandon Commercial Broomball League. Clarence Foster and Bob Jaska paced the way to the win with two goals each while Bill Huston scored once.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Gerry McDonald won the city scratch men’s singles title in 10-pin bowl- ing, while Marilyn Buchanan was the women’s champ.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Steve Johnson scored 23 points as ACC Cougars whipped the Kelsey Institute Amaruks 67-47 in Prairie Athletic Conference men’s basketball action.

• 30 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Grey Owls announced the signing of their second player for the 1996 Prairie League of Professional Baseball season. The Grey Owls came to terms with third baseman/catcher Chris Cooper of Tempe, Ariz., on a one-year contract.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Matt Calvert fired four goals and assisted on two others to power the Brandon Wheat Kings to an 8-3 triumph over the Central Plains Capitals in Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League action at the Sportsplex.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Riese Gaber of the Parkland Rangers scored two goals and set up five others in a pair of Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League games on the weekend and was rewarded by being named the league’s player of the week
