60 YEARS AGO — Roy McKenzie and his unheralded Harding rink of Orlie McLaughlin, Clair McTaggart and Darryl Lowe are 11-0 at the 75th annual Brandon men’s open curling bonspiel, virtually clinching the aggregate crown.

50 YEARS AGO — Andy Murray and Ray Brownlee scored two goals a piece to pace Brandon Olympics to a 6-4 Central Amateur Senior Hockey League win over Transcona Chargers. Jack Brawn and Mel Jesson scored the other goals for the Olympics.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Cindy Gabor scored 23 points to lead the Vincent Massey Vikings to an 81-38 victory over Neelin Spartans in Brandon High School varsity girls’ basketball action. Lorna Braaksma added 14 points for the Vikings.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Richard Dane and Jamie Black potted a pair of goals each to pace the Vincent Massey Vikings to a 4-1 Westman High School Hockey League win over the Crocus Plainsmen. David Newman replied for the Plainsmen.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Scott Patterson scored twice to lead the Boissevain Border Kings to a 7-4 triumph over the Deloraine Royals Sunday in Game 1 of the best-of-seven SouthWest Hockey League semifinal series at Boissevain.

• 10 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Bobcats women’s basketball team took a step closer to capturing the club’s first playoff spot since the 1983-84 season with a 71-63 win over the UBC Thunderbirds at the Healthy Living Centre Friday night. Keisha Cox led BU with 22 points.
