BRANDON WHEAT KINGS

The third-place Wheat Kings (38-6-0-3) had their game against Winnipeg Bruins postponed to next week and then had a home-and-home series with the Yellowhead Chiefs in what was supposed to be the final weekend of the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League’s regular season.

On Sunday afternoon at Shoal Lake Communiplex, Cole Dupuis, Reid Nicol, Easten Turko and Hudson Champagne scored as the Wheat Kings topped the Chiefs 4-1.

Cooper Dryden made 24 saves for Brandon, with Sawyer Wallin blocking 56 shots for Yellowhead.

On Friday at J&G Homes Arena, Brandon’s Hudson Champagne scored his 29th and 30th goals of the season and Crew Elder, Owen Stanley, Hunter Ethelston, Kevin Knee, Jaxson Brick and Benjamin Sveistrup scored in an 8-3 victory over Yellowhead

Urijah Moosetail made 14 saves for Brandon, with Landon McGregor blocking 42 shots for Yellowhead.

The Wheat Kings now finish up against the Bruins at J&G Homes Arena on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., after their Wednesday matchup was postponed due to the weather.

SOUTHWEST COUGARS

The sixth-place Cougars (27-18-1-2) split against the 11th-place Interlake Lightning (13-34-1-0) and the first-place Winnipeg Bruins (41-3-1-2).

On Saturday at Winnipeg’s Southdale Community Centre, Antonio Correia scored four goals as the Bruins routed the Cougars 13-0. Nate Brown made 25 saves for Southwest, with Logan German blocking all 22 shots he faced for Winnipeg.

On Friday at Teulon-Rockwood Arena, Taylor Lockhart, Eric Berger and Jack Polasek scored in a 3-1 Southwest victory over Interlake.

Brady Shields made 29 saves for Southwest, with Grayson Mcdonald stopping 26 shots for Interlake.

PARKLAND RANGERS

The eighth-place Rangers (23-19-5-1) finished up against the second-place Winnipeg Wild (39-6-1-2)

On Friday at Dauphin’s Credit Union Place, Adrian Braun tied the game with 92 seconds remaining in regulation and Cody Farrell won it 49 seconds into overtime as the Wild eked out a 2-1 overtime victory.

Alex Campbell replied with his 32nd goal of the season for the Rangers.

Eddy Person made 34 saves for Parkland, with Ardan Downey stopping 21 shots for Winnipeg.

YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS

The ninth-place Chiefs (18-29-1-0), who will miss the playoffs, finished their season against Brandon.

GIRLS

YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS

The fifth-place Chiefs (11-11-3-3) scored just one goal in three games as they were eliminated by the fourth-place Winnipeg Avros (16-9-2-1) in the Manitoba Female Hockey League U18 AAA’s best-of-five quarterfinals.

In Game 1 at Winnipeg’s Seven Oaks Arena on Friday, Adriana Almeida made 29 saves and five different Avros scored in a 5-0 shutout victory. Kylie Hack made 27 saves for Yellowhead.

In Game 2 at the Shoal Lake Communiplex on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., Casey George tied the game for the Chiefs in the second period but Cali Lavallee replied 10 minutes later shorthanded in what proved to be a 3-1 Avros victory. Hack made 22 saves for Yellowhead, with Anya Kauenhowen stopping 41 shots for Winnipeg, including 25 in the third period.

In Game 3 in Winnipeg on Sunday evening, Almeida stopped all 20 shots she faced and Lexington Green scored the winner midway through the second period in a 4-0 Avros victory. Hack made 25 saves for Yellowhead.

WESTMAN WILDCATS

The third-place Wildcats (16-7-0-5) are up two games against the sixth-place Pembina Valley Hawks (9-18-0-1)

In a high-scoring Game 1 at Hartney Arena on Friday, Callie Franklin scored a power-play goal with 3:39 remaining to lift the Wildcats to a 6-5 victory.

Ivy Perkin scored twice and Lucy Waldner, Rachel Lyver and Ava Snyder also sniped as Westman built up a 5-0 lead, but Pembina Valley rallied to tie with five goals in 13 minutes in the third period.

Indigo Stone made 21 saves for Westman, with Hannah Bannister and Madison Froese turning aside 28 shots for Pembina Valley.

In Game 2 at Hartney Arena on Sunday afternoon, Ivy Fry scored twice and Payton Smith and Lucy Waldner as the Wildcats went up 4-1 early in the second period, but the Hawks roared back to tie the game 4-4. The winner came with 1:41 left when Ivy Perkin scored for a 5-4 Westman victory.

Shannon Hees made 25 saves for Westman, with Bannister turning aside 32 shots for Pembina Valley.

Game 3 is at Hartney Arena on Tuesday at 8 p.m., and Game 4 is Morden’s Access Events Centre on Thursday at 8 p.m.

If necessary, Game 5 is in Hartney on Saturday at 5 p.m.

ELSEWHERE

The first-place Winnipeg Ice (25-2-0-1) are up 2-0 against the eighth-place Interlake Lightning (2-23-0-2).

The Ice opened with a 5-0 victory on Saturday at Stonewall’s Veterans Memorial Sports Complex and a 7-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Winnipeg’s Hockey For All Centre.

Game 3 is set for Stonewall’s Veterans Memorial Sports Complex on Tuesday at 8 p.m.

The second-place Eastman Selects (24-2-1-1) are playing the seventh-place Central Plains Capitals (8-19-0-1) in the other quarterfinal.

The Selects earned a 2-0 victory on Saturday at the Niverville Community Resource and Recreation Centre, and a 4-1 win at Portage la Prairie’s BDO Centre for the Community on Sunday evening.

The series returns to Niverville on Tuesday for Game 3.
