Jaxen Lee scored the game-winning goal to power Team West No. 1 to a 2-1 victory over East in the under-13 male hockey gold-medal game at the Manitoba Games in Thompson on Wednesday.

Grady Hay opened the scoring for West, with Lee assisting.

Lincoln Rivard was the only East player to get the puck past West goaltender Devlan Bromley.

Wednesday’s results:

• ARCHERY — Team West, featuring Sam Chapman, Kaleesa Dysart, Elie Nicholls and Nevaeh Sierens, won the team compound final 149-145 over East.

Brandon Farquhar and Brielle VanDaele gave West another gold in the team recurve, beating Winnipeg Gold 6-0 in the final.

In team barebow, West’s Jack Reeves and Rheanna Windsor claimed bronze with a 6-0 win over East.

• CURLING — Team West No. 1 defeated South No. 2 5-4 in the female gold-medal game.

The Carberry-based team, including Abbey Snowden, Gemma McLeod, Tegan Graham and Sabrina Graham, wasn’t the only West squad on the podium.

West No. 2, featuring Ella Stewart, Kolby Gerelus, Julianne Phillips and Brooke Unrau, claimed bronze with an 11-5 win over East.

The West No. 2 male team settled for fourth, falling 7-6 to Winnipeg Blue.

• GYMNASTICS — Brooklynn White of Brandon narrowly won the Xcel Gold age 14-17 all-around gold medal, edging Winnipeg Blue’s Elizabeth Tureckiy by .025 points. White finished with 37.075 points, adding golds in the floor and balance beam with a bronze in the uneven bars.

Glenella’s Natalie Henton (36.050) took the bronze, with a gold in the uneven bars and bronze in the vault.

In the age 10-11 group, Bentley Yeomans-Murphy won all-around bronze with a score of 35.700.

The Phase 1 athletes left Thompson on Wednesday, while the Phase 2 athletes arrived to compete in badminton, cross-country skiing, mixed-doubles curling, figure skating, futsal, female hockey, speed skating and wrestling.
