• 40 YEARS AGO — Dale Lewis’ goal at 2:54 of overtime gave the Southwest Cougars a 5-4 victory over the Norman Northstars in a Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League playoff game at Deloraine. Tim Hutchins and Darryl Makinson had two goals each for the Cougars.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Three members of the Brandon Wheat Kings were rewarded for their efforts when the WHL announced its finalists for league awards. Wade Redden, Peter Schaefer and Bob Lowes were selected as the East Division finalists for top defenceman, most sportsmanlike player and coach of the year, respectively.
• 20 YEARS AGO —Jason Corbeatt and Robin McLean scored two goals 48 seconds apart in the third period to lift the Miniota/Elkhorn 56ers to a 5-4 win over the Kenton Cougars and the Hockey Manitoba senior D title. Mike Glover, Jason McKenzie and Kelsey McLeod also scored goals for Miniota/Elkhorn, which swept the best-of-three series.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Yellowhead Chiefs evened their Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League series with the Eastman Selects at a game apiece after beating them 4-2 in Shoal Lake.
