• 40 YEARS AGO — The City Centre Canadians blasted the Exhibition Bandits 8-1 to advance to the Shilo and District Men’s Broomball final. Tim Rey fired three goals while Duane Speare and Ron Lauder added two each.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Bobby Brown, Mike Leclerc and Darryl Stockham all scored twice for the Brandon Wheat Kings and Cory Cyrenne had a single as they defeated the Regina Pats 7-1 in WHL action in Regina. Brandon goalie Jody Lehman stopped 23 shots.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Zellers AA Midget Wheat Kings staved off elimination with a 5-3 win over the Winnipeg Hawks in Game 3 of the best-of-five Winnipeg Midget City Hockey League semifinal series. Scott Hellyer made 44 saves to help Brandon force a Game 4.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Thompson Rivers WolfPack left side Iuliia Pakhomenko was named the Mary Lyons Award winner for player of the year in Canadian Interuniversity Sport women’s volleyball. Pakhomenko led the country in kills per set (4.67), total kills (425), points per set (5.5), total points (496.5) and service aces (50).
