• 40 YEARS AGO — Shawn Berry scored twice to give Spectrum a 5-2 win over Curly’s and a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five Inter-City Hockey League final. Larry Brooks, Mark Johnson and Grant Slessor rounded out the Spectrum scoring.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Neil Gillies, B.J. Birch, Brad Pilling, Jeff Hume and Gord Paddock scored for the Blanchard Bobcats in a 5-1 triumph over the Miniota Nighthawks in a North Central Hockey League playoff game.

• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a 7-3 decision to the Winnipeg Thrashers during Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League action at the Sportsplex.

• 10 YEARS AGO — The Virden Oil Capitals built up a 3-0 first period lead and went on to beat the visiting Winnipeg Blues 5-3 in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League quarterfinal round of the playoffs. Dylan Thiessen, Drake Bodie, Bennett Dale, Brett Sharples and Devan Schram scored for Virden, which went up 2-1 in the best-of-seven series.
