One series is over and another is heading to Game 4 in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League semifinals.

BRANDON (3) vs. WPG WILD (3)

Brandon leads the series 2-1 after losing on Saturday.

In Game 1 at Winnipeg’s Hockey For All Centre on Tuesday, Hudson Champagne scored 8:20 into double overtime in a 3-2 Brandon win.

Benjamin Sveistrup and Kale Jones had the other goals for the Wheat Kings as they built a 2-0 lead, and Jaxon Dean and Max George replied in the third period to tie the game.

Brandon’s Urijah Moosetail made 48 stops and Winnipeg’s Chase Kettles made 33 saves.

In Game 2 at Brandon’s J&G Homes Arena on Thursday, Jaxson Brick gave Brandon the lead, Ryan Strilchuk tied it for Winnipeg in the second period and then Champagne potted the winner four minutes later.

Matthew Dupuis added an empty netter in a 3-1 Brandon win. Brandon’s Moosetail made 26 stops and Winnipeg’s Ardan Downey made 44 saves.

In Game 3 in Winnipeg on Saturday, Reid Nicol gave the Wheat Kings the lead in the second period but Anthony Bedard tied it for the Wild four minutes later. In the third period, Winnipeg’s Tyson Nimetz scored the winner at the 13:09 mark and Will Van Norman and Max George, into an empty net, also sniped in a 4-1 Wild victory.

Moosetail made 39 stops and Downey made 31 saves.

Game 4 is at J&G Homes Arena on Monday at 7:30 p.m., and if necessary, Game 5 will be at Hockey For All Centre in Winnipeg on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

WPG THRASHERS (4) vs. WPG BRUINS (2)

The Bruins swept their inter-city rivals with an emphatic victory in Game 3.

In Game 1 at Southdale Community Centre on Tuesday, Julian Fedora opened the scoring for the Thrashers but Owen Murray sniped twice in response in a 2-1 Bruins win. Bruins goalie Logan German made 24 saves and Thrashers netminder Tate Barnaby turned aside 40 shots.

In Game 2 at Seven Oaks Community Centre on Thursday, Murray had a goal and two assists in a 4-1 Bruins win. German made 30 saves and Barnaby stopped 32 shots.

In Game 3 at Southdale Community Centre on Saturday, Mateo Ferreira had a hat trick, Western Hockey League Wheat Kings prospect Mason Chubey and Chace Gregg sniped twice and Antonio Correia had a goal and five assists as the Bruins earned a 10-0 rout.

German made 22 saves for the shutout while Barnaby and Nolan Giles combined to stop 30 shots for the Thrashers.

GIRLS

The Manitoba Female Hockey League U18 AAA best-of-five final series has been set, and it will feature the two best teams in the league as the first-place Winnipeg Ice and second-place Eastman Selects clash.

Game 1 is at Winnipeg’s Hockey For All Centre on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m., with Game 2 at the Niverville Community Resource and Recreation Centre on Sunday at 1:15 p.m.

Game 3 is back in Winnipeg on Tuesday, March 24 at 7:40 p.m., and if needed, Game 4 is in Niverville on Thursday, March 26 at 7:15 p.m., and Game 5 would be in Winnipeg on Sunday, March 29 at 7:15 p.m.

WESTMAN (3) vs EASTMAN (2)

The Selects won their series in four games.

In Game 4 in Hartney on Wednesday, Charlie Shearer opened the scoring 3:51 into the first period but Chloé Carrière responded less than three minutes later and Reese Beavis scored the winner late in the opening frame in a 2-1 Eastman victory.

Westman’s Indigo Stone made 31 saves and Eastman’s Addison Tome stopped 33 shots.

Earlier in the series, Eastman won 5-3 in Game 1, Westman took Game 2 by a score of 5-1, and Eastman won 4-3 in Game 3 in double overtime.

WPG AVROS (4) vs WPG ICE (1)

The Ice lost Game 1 and then won the next three to advance.

At Seven Oaks Arena on Wednesday, Claire Hudson gave the Ice a first-period lead and added a late empty netter in a 4-1 victory.Ice goalie Gina Plett turned aside 33 shots, with Avros netminder Adriana Almeida making 34 saves.

After a 2-1 Avros victory in overtime in Game 1, the Ice won 3-2 in overtime in Game 2 and 5-3 in Game 3.
