• 40 YEARS AGO — The Crocus Plainsmen won the Manitoba freshman boys’ basketball consolation championship by downing the St. Paul’s Crusaders 48-45 in overtime. Jason Epp, who was selected to the second all-star team, led Crocus with 16 points.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Travis Laing scored three goals to lead the Boissevain Border Kings to a 6-2 triumph over the Foxwarren Falcons in South West Hockey League playoff action. Paul Mandziuk, Derek Gilbert and Gord Ransom also scored for the Border Kings.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Jared MacDonald and Adam Wowchuk shared the shutout as the Brandon Bantam AA Wheat
Kings topped the Central Plains Director’s Cup team 4-0 in an exhibition game at Optimist Arena. Jesse Roziere, Blair Osiowy, Brock Bastone and Jordan Barnes each scored once for the Wheat Kings.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings closed out their regular season in style with a dominant 3-0 win over the Regina Pats at Westman Place. Jayce Hawryluk provided the offence for his team, scoring his fifth hat trick of the season, including two goals in less than three minutes with help from overage defenceman Mitch Wheaton.
