It’s must-win games for the Brandon Wheat Kings here on out.

The Wheat Kings U18 squad have their backs fully against the wall after dropping a 4-2 decision to the Winnipeg Bruins in Game 2 at J&G Homes Arena late Monday to fall to a 2-0 deficit in their Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League best-of-five championship clash.

Forwards Mason Chubey and Trevor Toyne hit the back of the net a minute and a half apart to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, before Brandon’s Reid Nicol potted in his 10th of the post-season to bring it to a one goal game after 40.

Toyne tallied his second of the game less than four minutes into the third to give his team some insurance and then with 20 seconds left in the contest, Crew Elder got the Wheat Kings back on the board, but it proved to be too little too late.

Eight seconds later rookie Crewe Schimnowski buried the empty netter to seal his opponents fate.

Brandon’s Urijah Moosetail made 31 stops in a losing effort, while Logan German turned asive 29 shots in Winnipeg’s all important victory.

The Wheat Kings will begin their trek to three-straight wins in Game 3 at Southdale Community Centre this evening at 7 o’clock.
