• 40 YEARS AGO — Pat Morris, who rolled 1,887 in eight games, and Jim Dechka (1,800) of Brandon were winners in the CTF bowling regular provincial singles tournament and qualified for the nationals in Calgary.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Mike Fouillard scored twice to lead the Birtle Bruins to an 8-3 win over the Blanchard Bobcats in a North Central Hockey League playoff game. Marc Berry, Bobby Andrews, Jamie Evans, Scott Brook, Dave Barteaux and Bill Bowley added singles.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Joyce McDougall and her Manitoba rink of third Helen Fenwick, second Pam Horn and lead Karen Dunbar, lost 9-3 at the hands of Ann Dunn at the Canadian Senior Curling Championship.

• 10 YEARS AGO — The Moosomin Rangers earned the sixth and final berth into the Senior A provincial tournament after defeating the Miniota-Elkhorn C-Hawks 4-1 in Game 5 of their best-of-five North Central Hockey League final, earning the title in their first year in the league. Josh Elmes scored twice and added an assist for Moosomin, while Curtis Gardham netted the lone goal for the C-Hawks.
