• 40 YEARS AGO — The Cartwright Clippers came up with a solid effort and thrashed the Spectrum Sportsmen 13-3 to even their South West Hockey League series 1-1. Clint Haight, Boyd Mullin, Hal Haight, Brett Vincent and Jim Moffat scored twice for the Clippers while Dale Vincent, Scott Gwynne and Murray Mullen added singles.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Scott Brook scored three goals to lead the Birtle Bruins past the Blanchard Bobcats in a North Central Hockey League playoff game. Chris Sutherland added two goals for the Bruins. Jamie Evans and Bobby Andrews had singles.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Terry McNamee always seem to find the right combination of players and his shooting eye when the Manitoba Mixed Curling Championship rolls around every year. The Brandon curler did it again, winning his third provincial mixed title in the past four years with an 8-2 triumph over Bill Wozniak of Winnipeg at the Portage Curling Club.

• 10 YEARS AGO — The Kamloops Vibe got the better of the Assiniboine Community College Cougars as Ashley Fisher made 34 saves for the Vibe, which won its second senior B Western Shield women’s hockey championship in three years with a 2-0 win over the Cougars in Kamloops, B.C.
