60 YEARS AGOPaul Podobni and his rink from Woodnorth topped an entry of 21 rinks to capture the aggregate honours at the Scarth curling bonspiel in Virden.

50 YEARS AGO — The Foxwarren Falcons had two-goal efforts from Dennis Huberdeau, Dan Tremblay and Dale Little to beat the Minnedosa Bombers 9-5.

40 YEARS AGO Gavin McGregor of the Brandon Bluefins finished third overall in the 10-and-under division of the Optimists Dolphins swim meet in Regina. McGregor was second in both the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

30 YEARS AGOKevin Malchuk powered West Ag Electric to an 8-0 victory over the Willow Creek Flyers with four goals in Westman Winter Hockey League playoff action. Darryl Sobkow turned aside 15 shots for the shutout. Kevin Hedley, Brent Fergusson, Kevin Bartley and Blaine Cochrane scored the other goals.

20 YEARS AGO — In the end, not even the lure of a big-time NCAA Division 1 program was enough to pull Becky Young away from her home province. Young, the superb Grade 12 Souris Collegiate setter who was pursued by a number of Canadian and American post-secondary suitors, officially committed to the Brandon University Bobcats women’s volleyball program.

10 YEARS AGOKendra Roberts of Souris and Canada’s under-18 women’s rugby team fell 41-17 to an English development team in an exhibition game in England. Roberts scored one of Canada’s three tries.
