• 60 YEARS AGO — Dianne Aitchison, of Harrison beat all her high school opponents in the interschool badminton tournament with a no-loss score to win the girls’ singles.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Ed McMillan and his rink of Dawn Hope, Doug Mosiuk and Kurt Jedel won the annual Guess Who bonspiel at the Riverview Curling Club by defeating Bud Higgens’ rink in the final of the 40-rink affair.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Heading to Saskatoon in May representing Manitoba in the national bowling championships are: Dave Zabiaka, Grant Ogonowski, Lloyd Hudson, Vic From, Diane Sokolowski, Karen Baraniuk, Bonnie Peters and Phyllis Carruthers.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Peter Boake scored three goals in the Russell Rams’ 9-6 North Central Hockey League playoff win over the Blanchard Bobcats. Devin Zimmer and Ted Fleury added two goals apiece for the Rams, while Trent Ciprick and Ian Shingoose added singles.

• 20 YEARS AGO — The Souris Elks sit in a tie for first at the western Canadian female midget hockey championship in Souris after back-to-back wins, including a 3-2 victory over the defending champion Notre Dame Hounds from Saskatchewan.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Rob Dinsdale feels like he has giant shoes to fill. The history, geography and social studies teacher at Crocus Plains has agreed to take over as head coach of the school’s football program after the sudden death of longtime coach Kevin Boyd.
