• 50 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Jim Thornborough skipped his rink of Murray Coates, Cathy Gillis and Les Hoad to a first-event win in the annual Glenboro spring curl-a-day bonspiel by defeating Don Barr in the final.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Kevin Malchuk, Brad Benton and Brian Simpson combined 15 scoring points, sparking Spectrum Sportsmen to a 13-7 victory over Cartwright Clippers at the Keystone Centre to tie the best-of- seven SouthWest Hockey League final at 2-2.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Dan Sims scored the winning goal to lift the Neepawa Natives to a win over the St. James Canadians and take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Manitoba Junior Hockey League final. Mike Baranyk and Dan Senff scored the other Neepawa goals and Dale Isfeld pitched in a pair of assists.

• 20 YEARS AGO — The Souris Elks will meet the Edmonton Thunder A for the bronze medal in the five-team western Canadian midget female hockey championship.

• 10 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings fought back from one-goal deficits three times and Tanner Kaspick’s short-handed marker proved to be the winner as they downed the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-3 in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal playoff series at Westman Place.
