• 60 YEARS AGO — The West End Community Club recently won the Brandon Inter-Community Club Tom Thumb hockey championship. Team members are: Grant McCulloch, Jim Thompson, Keith Lukiw, Don Chalanchuk, Hamish Patterson, Don Ferris, Dave McInnes, Glen Lacy, Garth German, Billy Reimer, Clarence Reimer, Ron Curtis, Bob Meek and Don Stewart with Brian Lukiw and Stu Thompson, coaching.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Dave Hale scored four goals to lead Souris to a 15-4 win over Virden and the championship of Turtle Mountain Hockey League’s juvenile division.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Terry Fowler of the Brandon Boxing Club tuned up for the Canadian junior championships with a unanimous decision over Fargo’s Joe Olson on a card in Grand Forks, N.D.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Leanna Kordyban scored a power-play goal 8:34 into overtime as the Edmonton Thunder defeated the host Souris Elks 3-2 in the bronze-medal game at the Murray Arena at the western Canadian female midget hockey championship. Jasmine Pollock and Andrea Cook scored for Souris.
