60 YEARS AGO Orville Klusendorf and his Reston rink of Eileen Klusendorf, Bill Iles and Margaret Bulloch were winners of the first event in the final bonspiel of the season.

40 YEARS AGO Dan Halldorson of Brandon fired consecutive 66s on the weekend to claim the $36,000 first prize at the $200,000 Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic in Hattiesburg, Miss. Halldorson shattered the 72-hole tournament record with a 263 total, five shots better than the old record.

20 YEARS AGO Brock Bastone scored two goals and set up another as Brandon knocked off Westman South 8-1 at the Sportsplex in an exhibition game between Directors Cup hockey teams. Jordan Barnes and Nolan Jago each had a goal and two assists.

10 YEARS AGO — The Westman Youth Football Association has been without a permanent home for 16 years. That will soon change. President Blaine Moroz announced that the association had agreed in principle to acquire a 530-by-1,200-foot parcel of land located north of Simplot Millennium Park, home of Brandon Minor Baseball.
