Forward Merik Boles netted two goals, including the game winner eight minutes and 35 seconds into the middle frame, while Adam Vigfusson, Evan Panzer, John Scott, and Kole Mears also found twine to give the Niverville Nighthawks a 3-0 series strangehold over the Virden Oil Capitals in the Turnbull Cup championship at Niverville Community Resource & Recreation Centre late Tuesday.

Tyson Ulmer, Austin Osiowy, and Liam Goertzen’s shorthanded goal for Virden capped off a back-and-forth first period which ended tied at threes, before Boles recorded his second of the game while shorthanded in the second. Scott and Mears then added insurance markers in the third period to put their team within one win of their first Turnbull Cup title.

Austin Dubinsky turned aside 39 shots in the victory and Braxton Burdeny, who’s now allowed three or more goals in all three contests, made 15 saves in the loss.

The Nighthawks will have a chance to close out the series in Game 4 this evening in Virden. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.
