• 60 YEARS AGO — Lorne Judd was elected president of the Brandon Mercantile 10-pin league at their annual windup. Judd replaced past president Mike Scinocca.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Peter Mitchell of Brandon was 11th overall in the Argo division of the Western Canadian gymnastics championship in Lethbridge. Mitchell’s best result came on the pommelhorse, where he had a seventh-place finish. Manitoba’s boys’ team finished third over- all with John Sowiak, Charles Hall and Bobby Keeper of Brandon competing.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Three Brandonites Jonathan Moorehead, Jennifer Stanley and Stephen Thompson were to represent Manitoba at the Youth Bowling Council national 10-pin championships at New Westminster, B.C., the following week.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Jesse Zetariuk is the last Brandon boy still alive in the Western Hockey League playoffs as his Moose Jaw Warriors carry a 2-0 lead over the Medicine Hat Tigers into tonight’s Game 3 of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference final

• 10 YEARS AGO — They’re back. The Brandon Wheat Kings’ top line for the last half of the season, Jayce Hawryluk, Nolan Patrick and Tyler Coulter combined for 10 points and the team now heads to Red Deer in control of their Eastern Conference best-of-seven final after beating the Rebels 6-4 in Game 2. The victory gives the Wheat Kings a 2-0 lead in the Western Hockey League series after they won 4-3 in overtime in Game 1.
