• 50 YEARS AGO — Olympians, one of the perennial powers in the Brandon Senior Soccer League, got off on the right foot in seasonal play by blanking the Gators 3-0. Doug Brown and the Clark boys, Bruce and Bill, accounted for the scoring, while Murray Way collected the shutout.
• 40 YEARS AGO — In Brandon high school soccer play, Maura-Jo Kennedy scored and Michelle Hoode recorded the shutout as the Vincent Massey Vikings downed Neelin Spartans 1-0.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Peter Schaefer’s winning goal with less five minutes left gave the Brandon Wheat Kings a heartstopping 2-1 victory over the Spokane Chiefs and a 3-1 edge in the best-of-seven Western Hockey League final. Bobby Brown had the other Wheat King marker.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Tanner Bates gave up just two hits and one earned run in 6 1/3 innings as the Crocus Plainsmen beat the Vincent Massey Vikings 8-2 in Prairie West High School Baseball League action.
