• 50 YEARS AGO — Roy Best was elected president of the Brandon Commercial Fastball League.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Hope Shelvey scored two goals to lead the Stingers to a 3-2 victory over Minnedosa in a Brandon Senior Soccer League women’s game. Elaine Lewis also scored for the winners.

• 30 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Guelph Storm 2-1 in their opening round-robin matchup at the Memorial Cup. Scoring for the winners were Darren Van Oene and Dorian Anneck.

• 20 YEARS AGO — It appears Sami Sandell may be Finnished as a member of the Brandon Wheat Kings. The 19-year-old winger has signed a three-year contract with Ilves Tampere in the Finnish Elite Hockey League.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Akayla Veysey scattered 10 hits in a complete-game effort to lead the Vincent Massey Vikings to a 19-7 win over the Crocus Plainsmen in Brandon High School Fastpitch League action.
