• 60 YEARS AGO — Jim McDonald of Brandon won the 11-12 year-old backstroke and finished second in the freestyle at the Manitoba YMCA swim meet in Winnipeg. Grant Trump was a double winner in the 13-14 year class, in freestyle and breast stroke.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Debbie Fitzpatrick struck out nine batters in pitching South End to a convincing 13-3 win over West End in Community Girls’ Softball League bantam division play. Janet McMahon hit a home run for West End.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Jeff Martinook scored two goals to help the host Neelin Spartans force a 2-2 tie with Crocus Plainsmen in Brandon high school varsity boys soccer. Greg Anderson and Danny Scott scored the Plainsmen goals.
• 30 YEARS AGO — A 3-1 loss to the Granby Predateurs in the final round-robin game for both teams dropped Brandon into the Memorial Cup semifinal. Bobby Brown had the Wheat Kings’ lone goal.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Jenna Kerbis tied for fifth all-around in the senior women’s division at the Canadian Gymnastics Championships.
