• 40 YEARS AGO — Greg Hurl knocked in five runs to key a 13-run fourth inning as Rent-a-Wreck edged Pepsi 18-14 in Brandon Merchant Fastball League play. Pitcher Kevin Kasprick picked up the win.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Jeff Robertson hit a solo home run to spark the Birtle Blue Jays to a 13-3 triumph over the visiting Russell Rebels in Yellowhead Baseball League action. Chris Robinson learned the win for the Blue Jays, while Curtis Ramsden took the loss for the Rebels.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Derek McGorman pitched a complete game and got the bat going as well to lead the Arden Hawks to an 8-4 win over the Cardale Cougars in the Santa Clara Baseball League. McGorman struck out seven and gave up four hits and three walks on the mound while also supplying a two-run home run. Ken Urquhart went 2-for-3 and batted in two runs.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Graduating Brandon Midget AAA Wheat Kings forward Chipper Osiname signed with the Selkirk Steelers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. The five-foot-10, 160-pound Brandonite had 20 goals and 18 assists in 42 games in 2015-16 after spending the last two seasons with the Wheat Kings.
