IN LOCAL HISTORY

• 40 YEARS AGO — Led by veteran Rick McFayden, the Brandon Cloverleafs continued their climb up the Manitoba Senior Baseball League ladder by crushing the Neepawa Farmers 9-3. McFayden went 4-for-5 with a home run and two runs batted in.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Kara Breneman scored four goals to lead the Blazers to a 9-2 romp over Neepawa in a Brandon Senior Soccer League women’s game at Shilo. Tina Moody and Davilyn Coombs both added a pair of markers for the Blazers.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Curtis Seafoot was sharp on the mound as the Wawanesa Brewers got by the Virden Oilers 2-1 in the South West Baseball League. Seafoot struck out 10 batters over seven innings, allowing four hits and two walks. He was no slouch at the plate, either, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

• 10 YEARS AGO — The visiting Boissevain Centennials pushed across a run in the top of the eighth inning to beat the Hamiota Red Sox 7-6 in one of nine games in the South West Baseball League. Aaron Pugh went the distance for the winners, giving up six hits, six walks and five earned runs to go with his nine strikeouts. Taylor Madsen took the loss, surrendering 11 hits, two walks and five earned runs.
