The Brandon Wheat Kings will open their Western Hockey League pre-season on Sept. 4 when the Regina Pats visit.
The game at Assiniboine Credit Union Place starts at 7 p.m., with the teams meeting again a night later at Chief Denton George Memorial Multiplex in Ochapowace, Sask.
The Wheat Kings then host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m., and visit Temple Gardens Centre the next evening.
In total, the WHL is holding 56 pre-season games, including a pair between the Victoria Royals and Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights on Sept. 4 and 5.
Brandon opens its regular season on Friday, Sept. 18 against the Saskatoon Blades. The last time Brandon opened against Saskatoon was Sept. 21, 2007.
The rest of the regular season schedule will be released on Aug. 30.
In other WHL news, the Regina Pats have hired 49-year-old David Bell of Wiarton, Ont., as head coach. He spent the last seven seasons with the American Hockey League’s Belleville Senators as an assistant coach and later as head coach.
He replaces Brad Herauf, whose contract wasn’t renewed after last season.
