• 40 YEARS AGO — Jill Richards and Patti Buckman scored goals as the Brandon Club Straycats defeated the Bobcats 2-0 in Brandon Senior Women’s Soccer League action. Cindy Bauche got the shutout.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Keith Oliver hit a home run and a single and winning pitcher Marlin Murray helped his cause with two singles as the Melita Beavers beat the Waskada Orioles 9-8 in South West Baseball League action. Norm McGregor was the losing pitcher.

• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Barbarians successfully battled the elements to beat the Winnipeg Highlanders 18-5 in a rain-interrupted Division II game in the Manitoba Rugby Union at Canada Games Park.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Brad Roth went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as the Wawanesa Brewers got past the host Boissevain Centennials 9-7 in South West Baseball League play. Jay Graham went 2-for-3 with a walk for the Centennials. Derek McGregor picked up the win for Wawanesa (7-3), despite allowing seven runs in 5 2/3 innings. Boissevain (7-3) starter Skylar Canada gave up six runs in three innings and was handed the loss.
