• 40 YEARS AGO — The Westman Super League of Curling announced its all-star team for its first 10 years of competition. Named to the team were lead Al Granger, second Gene Cory, third Garry McIntosh and skip Brian Moffatt.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Ryan Scott’s first home run of the season was a game-winner for the Neepawa Farmers. The outfielder hammered a three-run shot off the scoreboard in right-centre field in the top of the ninth to lift the Farmers to a 10-7 triumph over the host Brandon Cloverleafs in Manitoba Senior Baseball League action.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Sean Dryden of the Brandon Cloverleafs and Jeff Katchmar of the Ora Dental Marlins allowed just one earned run each while Team-2 erupted for seven third-inning runs in a 14-3 thrashing of Team-1 in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League’s all-star game at Westbran Stadium. Dyrden allowed four hits in three innings, with no walks, while Katchmar scattered three hits and a walk in a four inning stint.

• 10 YEARS AGO — John Hutton threw a complete-game three-hitter with six strikeouts as the Minnedosa Mavericks remained unbeaten in Santa Clara Baseball League play with a 5-1 home win over the Carberry Royals. Daylon Creasy tossed six innings for the Royals (3-7-1) and took the loss, giving up three earned runs on seven hits and two walks. John Lawrence led the Minnedosa (9-0-2) offensive attack going 2-for-4 with a double and driving in a run. Bret Heselwood had a single for Carberry.
