60 YEARS AGO — Little Frosty, owned by Tom Hicks and Jean Kettles of Brandon, won first place honours and the grand champion award in the hunter stake on the final day of the light horse show at the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba.

50 YEARS AGOGloria Crozier led Lee’s Eagles to a 34-9 win over Muntz in a Brandon and District Ladies’ Fastball League game. Crozier drilled seven singles while teammate Kay McMahon doubled three times.

40 YEARS AGO — Three Brandon archers were selected to represent the province at the Canadian age group championships. Travis Van Daele, John Bonnett and Brent McIntyre are all members of the Westman Regional Archery Association.

30 YEARS AGOJanita Vendevelde scored twice to lead the Stray Cats to a 4-3 victory over the Blazers in Brandon Senior Soccer League women’s action. Jenn Jackson and Jody Wallace also scored for the Cats. Kara Breneman, Davilyn Coombs and Morag McPherson replied for the Blazers.

20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Barbarians senior men’s rugby team overcame an early deficit to roll past the Winnipeg Wasps 47-29 in Rugby Manitoba Division 2 play on Saturday. The Barbarians trailed 22-7 but came roaring back thanks in large part to Sean Common. Common scored 22 points on two trys and six conversions, pushing his division-leading point total to 102 on the season.

10 YEARS AGOAndrew Vercaigne hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Deloraine Royals to an 8-6 win over the host Wawanesa Brewers in Game 1 of their best-of-three South West Baseball League division semifinal series.
