• 60 YEARS AGO — Hamiota Red Sox beat the Brandon Cloverleafs 7-3 in the MSBL last night. Rookie Leighton Kachur went the route on the hill. Al Robertson drove in two runs with was hit a pair of doubles.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Ed Mazur of Winnipeg and his team of Brandonites Bob Cornell and Brian Swain, along with Capt. John Russell of Shilo combined for a 18-hole best-ball of 53 at Shilo during the Westman hockey/golf tournament for the Molson Cup.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Bob Holden clubbed a two-run home run and Richard Lochhead added a double and a single to lead Melita Beavers to a 9-8 win over Lyleton Leafs in clinching an opening-round SouthWest Baseball League playoff series.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Des Koop threw a complete game and scattered eight hits to lead the Virden Oilers to an 8-2 win over the Wawanesa Brewers in a SouthWest Baseball League game in Virden.
