• 60 YEARS AGO — ANAF Brandon trounced Wawanesa 20-3 in Pony and Colt provincial playoffs. Darryle Andrews and Dwight Solon both had home runs for ANAF Brandon. Solon was the winning hurler.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Clanwilliam Greys squeaked by UCT 2-1 before battering BAE 18-5 in the East Division of the Brandon Centennial Fastball League. Bob Madill, Dennis Magwood, Elgin Robertson and Malcolm Klym managed two hits apiece to back the pitching of Al McPherson, who went the distance.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Donna Cullen slammed a home run and a single to lead the way as Fred’s Dry Cleaners doubled McKenzie Seeds 8-4 in a Brandon and District Ladies Fastball League game. Janet Lumsden, Isabelle Panasiuk and Susan Stewart each singled three times for Fred’s.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Ryan Scott, Cory Hilhorst, Dan Senff and Troy Mutch each knocked in two runs as the Neepawa Farmers crushed the Brandon Cloverleafs 11-2 in a Manitoba Senior Baseball League game. Hilhorst went 3-for-5 with a double to lead the Farmers’ offensive attack, while Senff, Dean McBride and Mutch all had multiple hit games.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon United Cougars had their run at the Toronto Cup ended in the quarter-final. The Cougars under-15 soccer team was edged by Darlingford (Ont.) 3-2. Dane Cruickshank and Chris Morris scored the goals in the loss.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Zach Wytinck sits second after the first round of the junior men’s provincial golf championship. The 17-year-old Glenboro product fired a one-over 71 at Portage Golf Club and is just one shot back of leader Sam Diamond.
