• 60 YEARS AGO — Patsy Muirhead of Betula Lake won the women’s title at the Manitoba open water ski championships held over the weekend during the Farmer’s Festival at Minnedosa.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Ron Moffat of Brandon won the 100 metres, 200 metres and the hurdles at the Westman Regional Summer Games in Souris on the weekend. John Woods of Killarney was another triple winner, taking the high jump, long jump and triple jump.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Mike Young homered twice and tripled as McKenzie Seeds dumped Alexander 11-3 in a Brandon Merchants Fastball League game.
• 30 YEARS AGO — David Kirkup scored from first base on a throwing error by Waskada pitcher Norm McGregor in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Souris Cardinals scored a critical 3-2 triumph over the Orioles in a South West Baseball League game.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Rory Tycoles and Jeff Katchmar both hammered home runs to spark the visiting Reston Rockets to a 7-0 victory over the Virden Oilers in SouthWest Senior AA Baseball League action.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Travis Fifi of Brandon was the top Westman finisher after the first round of Golf Manitoba’s Nott Autocorp Men’s Amateur Championship. Fifi shot a 1-over 73 at Minnewasta Golf and Country Club in Morden, recording three bogeys and two birdies to finish tied for seventh.
