• 60 YEARS AGO — The Manitoba Senior Baseball League all-stars team has been announced: Tommy Town, Bob Wilson, Maurice Oakes, Stan Furman of Brandon; Garth Seafoot and Cliff Seafoot of Riverside; Al Robertson, Mel Smith and Lynn Caldwell, Hamiota; Jerry Shumanski, Dauphin; Dick Limke, Souris and Mickey Torres, St. Lazare.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Cam Randall and Guy McKim, both of the Brandon Barbarians Rugby Football Club, were named to the senior provincial team.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Ryan Borody hammered a pair of two-run homers to lead the Hamiota Red Sox to a 10-3 triumph over the visiting Neepawa Cubs in Yellowhead Baseball League action. Tim Knight scattered four hits and four strikeouts over seven innings to earn the win, while Carey Knight went 4-for-4 with a double for the Red Sox.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon Wheat Kings goaltender Tyler Plante, 19, is a late addition to the 44-player roster for the Canadian junior team summer development camp.
• 10 YEARS AGO — After a one-year stint as an assistant coach with the Brandon University Bobcats women’s volleyball team, Shane Smith is headed to the Queen City. Smith, who had spent the three previous seasons as an assistant with the Winnipeg Wesmen men’s volleyball squad, will take over as interim head coach of the University of Regina Cougars women’s volleyball team for the 2016-17 Canada West conference season.
