• 60 YEARS AGO — Don Germschied of Brandon received the Sunnyside golf tournament trophy by carding a four-over-par 75 to win the championship flight.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Brad Langston pitched a five-hitter to gain the victory and shortstop Jeff Crossman paced Brandon Auto Electric’s 13-hit attack with four hits in a 13-5 win over Cook’s Crooks in Brandon Centennial Fastball League play.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Elaine Lewis scored three times and Krista Smith and Deb Scott each scored twice as the Stingers pounded the Barbarians 8-1 in Brandon Senior Soccer League women’s action.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Craig and Scott Geekie both belted home runs as the Hamiota Red Sox opened the Yellowhead Baseball League best-of- three quarterfinal series with a 12-3 win over the Oak River Dodgers. Craig was 3-for-4 and scored three runs, while Scott was also 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Gord Paddock pounded out a long ball for Oak River. Mark Bullion was the winning pitcher.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Dauphin’s Larry Johnston is three shots off the lead after the first round of the Manitoba Men’s Mid-Amateur Golf Championship. Johnston shot a six-over-par 77 at the Elmhurst Country Club.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Ryan Deleau delivered a clutch, go-ahead, two-run single in the top of the sixth inning as the Marlins clawed back from a 5-0 deficit to beat the Canadian Tire Cardinals 7-5 in a battle for first place in Andrew Agencies Senior AA Baseball League action at Andrews Field.
