IN LOCAL HISTORY
• 40 YEARS AGO — Karen Van Eenoo had four hits including a double to pave Deloraine Royalettes to an 11-6 victory over Curly MacKay and Sons in a Brandon and District Fastball League game. Rhonda Hicks had three singles in support of winning pitcher Donna Moore.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Dave Farquhar knew from experience that he likely wouldn’t have to do anything spectacular in the final round to win the Victoria Inn Western Open. After a stellar opening round of four-under-par 67, the Brandonite figured a steady round would give him an excellent chance at winning and he accomplished just that, shooting a two-over-par 73 to win by one stroke at the Wheat City Golf Course. His two-under-par total of 140 gave Farquhar his second Western Open title, following a 2004 playoff victory over Grant Coulter.
