• 60 YEARS AGO — Pine Ridge’s Bill Whibley toured the 18-hole layout in a par 70 to capture the professionals’ top money of $150 at the Western Open Golf Tournament at the Brandon Golf and Country Club.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Third baseman Stan Furman of Souris Cardinals, who finished the season with a stunning .470 average, kept up his hot hitting as the South Division trampled the North Selects 8-2 in McAuley. Furman lashed three hits including a double, and drove in four runs against
• 40 YEARS AGO — Wayne Crampain tossed a five-hitter and helped his cause with a triple and single as the host Kenton Cougars dropped Kola Cavaliers 5-3 in Virden and District Fastball League playoff action. Gerry Nolan chipped in a double and single for the Cougars.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Brandon Cloverleafs held on for a narrow 4-3 victory over the Brandon Ora Dental Marlins in MSBL action. The Cloverleafs got an 11-strikeout performance from starting pitcher Shane Moffatt. Moffatt went the distance, allowing five hits and walking none.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Max Bratzke was up to his old tricks again for the Royal Oak Inn Royal. The veteran sniper potted three goals as the Royals dumped the Neepawa Rangers 6-1 in a Brandon Senior Soccer League game.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Neepawa Cubs aren’t done yet in the Santa Clara Baseball League semifinals. The Cubs beat the 10-time league champs Minnedosa Mavericks 11-5 to stave off elimination. Game 3 of the best-of-three series goes tonight in Minnedosa.
