• 60 YEARS AGO — The Riverside Blues beat the Dauphin Redbirds 9- 5 in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League. Mark Fisher was the winning pitcher and Cliff Seafoot and Barry Moffat both singled twice.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Gord Kaluzniak and Dam Asham connected for run-producing doubles in the fourth inning to give the Brandon UCT Athletics a 3-2 victo- ry over the Nesbitt Braves in the SouthCentral Baseball League.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Gord Allan singled twice and doubled as North 40 Niners downed Rivers Rifles 13- 9 victory in Brandon Commercial Fastball League action. The Niner’s attack was bolstered by Ron Popplestone’s three singles.
• 30 YEARS AGO — The Waskada Orioles forced a fifth and deciding game in their South West Baseball League semifinal with Boissevain by whipping the visiting Centennials 11-5. Gary Kroeger doubled, singled and drove in a pair of runs for the winners while teammate Steve Meggison added a run-scoring double.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Kaitlin Troop fired the third-best round of the day to move back into the top 20 at the Canadian junior women’s golf championship. Troop carded a two-over-par 74 yesterday to move back into a tie for 20th place overall with a three-round total of 231.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Clark Whelpton’s two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Marshal Burgess to give the Canadian Tire Cardinals a thrilling 4-3 win over the Rivers Comets in Game 3 of their best-of-three Andrew Agencies Senior AA Baseball League semifinal series at Sumner Field.
