• 60 YEARS AGO — Dick Limke, Souris Cardinals’ ace pitcher, was voted the Manitoba Senior Baseball League’s most valuable player and winner of the Gordon Smith Memorial Trophy for the second consecutive year.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Lynn Little won the title of top female golfer in the MacDonald family at the Brandon Rec Centre golf course and along with it went the championship of the 44th annual Ladies’ Western Open. Lynn edged her sister, Carol Hendrickson, by one stroke to top the 66-woman field.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Home runs by Wayne Hamilton, Harvey Allen, Cam Mealy and Ross Taylor paced Run ’n Racquet to a 16-7 victory in Brandon Merchants Fastball League playoff action. Dennis McCutcheon was the winning pitcher.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Mac McLeod, a 20-year-old Brandon golfer, put together rounds of 71 and 72 to win the rural amateur championship by one shot over Minnewasta’s Bob Genoway at the Hecla Golf Course. McLeod finished the 36-hole event at 1-under 143, followed by Genoway, who fired a 69 Monday after opening with a 75. Portage’s Farrol Asham was third at 145.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Manitoba Angels — with Brandon outfielder Ashley Neufeld in tow — have advanced to the playoffs of the Canadian midget girls fastpitch championship. After posting a 4-3 round-robin record, the Angels got by the Saskatoon R&B Outlaws on Friday to earn fourth place in their division and a spot in the playoff round.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Brandonite Kienan Scribe swam his way to a pair of medals at the Power Smart Manitoba Games, one of them being gold. Scribe swam the junior boys’ 100-metre butterfly final in one minute 10.13 seconds to top the podium.
