The Brandon Marlins are unbeaten after the first day of action at the 13-and-under Western Canadian Baseball Championship in Ile des Chênes on Friday.
The Marlins opened with a 13-9 victory over the Swift Current 57’s and then topped Alberta’s YQL Sluggers 3-2.
In the first game, the Marlins clubbed out 16 hits and all but one player scored a run. They went up 10-0 by plating seven runs in the fourth inning and then hung on when the 57’s replied with five in the bottom of the seventh.
In the second game, Brandon surrendered two runs in the top of the first inning. They replied with one in the bottom of the first and tied the game in the fifth inning before winning it with a walk-off double in the seventh inning.
After the first day, the Marlins and three British Columbia teams — the Cloverdale Rangers, White Sox and Vancouver Mounties — are all 2-0. YQL, Swift Current, the Carillon Sultans and SP Athletics are 0-2.
The Marlins play their final round-robin game against Cloverdale today at noon.
