• 60 YEARS AGO — Ross Poole, Hamiota’s utility man, lashed out two hits and scored two runs to pace the Hamiota Red Sox to a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Souris Cardinals in the MSBL.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Brian Zimmer limited UCT to one hit as the Simplot Blues rallied for three runs in the seventh inning in a 4-1 victory. Murray Hedley’s two-run singled sparked the Simplot rally in the seventh and Ed Evans followed with a run-scoring single.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Marie Rohleder and Suzanne Deleurme sparked the offence with a triple and a single each as Boissevain Motor Hotel edged C and C Construction 8-7 to win their Brandon and District Ladies Fastball semifinal 2-1. Debbie Wray added three singles for the winners.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Mike Levandosky went 3-for-4 with three singles and three RBIs as the Neepawa Farmers hammered the Brandon Cloverleafs 11-3 in Game 3 of the MSBL best-of-seven championship series. Vince Eastman tossed a tidy four-hitter and gave up only two walks and earned two runs.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Tasha Cory scored her second try of the week to help Manitoba’s under-19 women’s rugby team battle back at the national championship with a 27-0 win over Newfoundland before dropping a 34-0 decision to undefeated Alberta.
• 10 YEARS AGO — A year after it was first discussed, David Anning is the head coach of the Brandon Wheat Kings.
