• 60 YEARS AGO — Larry Johnson of Dauphin, tied for second place after the first nine holes, fired a 43 to win the third annual Clear Lake cub golf tournament.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Ed Beare tossed a six-hitter as the Nesbitt Braves forced a deciding game in the best-of-five SouthCentral Baseball League final with a 6-3 victory over Brandon’s UCT Athletics. Beare walked four and struck out nine. Les Boak led Nesbitt with a pair of singles.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Karen Pearson scored four times to lead Minnedosa 100’s to a convincing 7-2 victory over the Barbarians in Brandon Senior Women’s Soccer League playoff action. Joan Horner, with two, and Marcia Schatz also scored for Minnedosa.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Kathy Hyde, Nancy Neustaeter and Wendy Thompson each scored once as the Stray Cats beat Neepawa 3-0 in Brandon senior women’s soccer action at Neelin high school.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Derek McGregor led the Wawanesa Brewers to the SouthWest Baseball League title. McGregor cranked a three-run homer and pitched six innings to earn the win while leading Wawanesa to a 9-4 victory over the Reston Rockets in the third and deciding game of the league final.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Souris’s Emily Tuttosi led Canada’s under-20 women’s rugby team onto the pitch against for Game 2 of its three-game series against England. Canada came up short 39-12 to the Red and Whites at Trent College in Nottingham, England. Canada got tries from Kasselle Menin and Jordyn Orlando, while Erin Geddes made a conversion.
