• 60 YEARS AGO — Brockies defeated Keddy’s 3-1 in Brandon Minor Baseball Association East End A action. Tom Lafournie, Jim Mann, Gord Stobbie and Wayne Sopp all had singles for the winners.
• 50 YEARS AGO — John McLean finished up the Brandon Senior Soccer League’s current schedule scoring five times and leading the Gators to a 10-2 victory over the Spartans. Dale Clark added three goals for the Gators, with singles going to Gerry Martin and Ron Dutchyshen.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Brandon Barbarians moved into first place in the second division of the Manitoba Rugby Union with a 12-3 victory over U of M Wombats. Pat Mosiuk and Cam Randall both scored a try for Brandon, with Don Cooper adding conversions.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Shannon Hirst of Virden won Westman’s first gold medal on the opening day of the Manitoba Summer Games in Morden. Hirst cleared 1.50 metres, which was good enough to win the bantam women’s high jump event and the gold for Team Westman.
• 20 YEARS AGO — As darkness set in, the Minnedosa Mavericks escaped into the night with a 2-1 lead in their best-of-five Santa Clara Baseball League series with an 11-7 win over the Carberry Royals.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Camilo Rodriguez scored three goals for Town Centre Dental Westman FC as it doubled up Winnipeg South End United 4-2 in Winnipeg Youth Soccer League boys’ under-14 Premier 2 Division play on Tuesday in Portage la Prairie.
