• 60 YEARS AGO — The Souris Cardinals staved off elimination in Manitoba Senior Baseball League semifinal action with a 10-6 win over the Hamiota Red Sox. Don Hunter hurled a 12-hitter as he went all the way to pick up the win. Dick Limke was the big Cardinal hitter, collecting three hits.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Darcy Ready pitched a two-hitter and Jim Myers drilled a two-run single to give Curlys a 4-3 win over UCT in a Brandon Minor Baseball Association East End A game.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Four different players handled the scoring as the Brandon University Bobcats dumped the Minnedosa Centennials 4-1 in Brandon Senior Men’s Soccer League action. Manjinder Grewal, Darren Ure, Gerry Cadman and Ron Sterling scored for the Bobcats.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Bob Maurice led the Boissevain Centennials to their fifth SouthWest Baseball League title in six years. Maurice struck out 12 batters in the Centennials’ 4-1 triumph over the Souris Cardinals to complete a sweep of the best-of-five championship series.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Matt Lepage has waited for this for years. After growing up with the Tamarack tournament as one of the highlights of his golf season, the 18-year-old Brandonite will play in the junior men’s championship match for the first time after topping Taylor McNamee of Brandon 2-and-1 in a semifinal on Thursday at the Clear Lake Golf Course.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Brandonites Riley Schaus and Keaton Jameson entered the junior men’s division at the 83rd annual Tamarack golf tournament as heavy favourites. After each recorded wins in their respective championship flight quarter-final matches — Schaus 6 and 5 over Neepawa’s Chase Dusessoy and Jameson in 19 holes over Riese Gaber of Gilbert Plains — they will meet in one of the two semifinals.
