• 60 YEARS AGO — Doug Brown scored two goals to lead Central A to a close 3-2 win over South End A in Brandon Commercial Soccer League action. Bruce Clark scored the other Central A goal.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Doreen Bugg earned the win while three of her teammates provided the hitting as Pizza Place beat Curly MacKays 11-5 in a Brandon and District Ladies’ Fastball League playoff game. Joyce Evans had a triple and two singles and Betty Couling had a double and two singles.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Brandon Wheat Kings defenceman Jeff Waver, a Minnedosa native, signed a professional contract with the Hamilton Steelhawks.
• 30 YEARS AGO — The Minnedosa Mavericks claimed the Yellowhead Baseball League title, beating Dauphin 12-10 to end the Brewers’ three-year title reign.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon University Bobcats head coach Russ Paddock has guided Canada into the semifinals at the NORCECA youth volleyball championship. Paddock’s team, which tuned up for the tournament in Brandon last week, swept the host Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-19) in quarterfinal action on Friday and faces Puerto Rico for a spot in the final.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Second-time Tamarack competitor Braxton Kuntz will be playing for a title after edging eighth seed Liam Murray of Lethbridge in 19 holes.
