• 50 YEARS AGO — Muntz scored a 12-11 victory over the Pic-A-Pop girls to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five B division final. Lorna Lang got credit for the pitching win over Pic-A- Pop’s Donna Trottier. Linda Lowe hit a triple for the winners and Barb Willox stroked a double.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Hair Impressions won the Brandon Commercial Fastball League North Division semifinal 2-1 with a 7-5 triumph over Clanwilliam Greys. Charlie Partridge and Bob Vandenburgh both homered and singled to lead the way, with Partridge also picking up the pitching win.
• 30 YEARS AGO — The Brandon University Bobcats men’s basketball team added some much- needed size for the 1996-97 in new recruits Trevor John, who is six-foot-five, and Steve Janz, who is six-foot-six.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Stratego Young Guns are one win away from capturing the MacArthur Senior AA Baseball League title after a 9-8 win over the Houstons Hitmen. Aaron Bertholet drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Young Guns got six innings from Sean Clegg who gave up nine hits and two walks before giving way to Tim O’Rourke who earned the win in relief by pitching a hitless seventh. Aaron Rome was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Al Luhowy was 2-for-2 with a double.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Danielle Frederick supplied the offence as Town Centre under-14 Westman FC Premier 2 beat BVSC U14 2-1 in Winnipeg Soccer League girls’ action in Portage la Prairie.
