IN LOCAL HISTORY
• 60 YEARS AGO — ANAF edged Northern Auto 3-1 in West End A semifinal competition. Jim McDonald connected with two singles, while Tom Johnson, Bob Meek and Colin Hargreave each hit a single to lead the ANAF team to victory.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Ron Hodgson pitched a two-hitter to lead Kullberg’s to a 9-0 triumph over New System in a Brandon Minor Baseball Association West End C game. Derek Rambel and Chuck Slack each singled for the winners.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Garry Loewen and Barry Gooden scored goals as the Sails dumped Brandon Club United 2-0 in a Brandon Senior Men’s Soccer League game. Goalkeeper Bryce Randall recorded the shutout.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Colby Robak hasn’t played in a single WHL game, so it would be a tad premature to label him as one of the steals of the 2004 bantam draft. However, the 16-year-old defenceman from Gilbert Plains is certainly looking like he could live up to the billing of a blue-chip prospect with his performance so far in Brandon Wheat Kings training camp.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Nolan Patrick sure wouldn’t have scripted his biggest hockey season this way. The Brandon Wheat Kings forward, widely considered a top candidate to be selected first at the National Hockey League draft next May, is recovering from sports hernia surgery in mid-July. He’s skated four times under the careful supervision of assistant coach Aaron Rome, but otherwise isn’t ready to participate in training camp.
