• 60 YEARS AGO — Knights of Columbus defeated the Canadian Inn 12-10 in the B city finals as Cliff Clisby hit three singles.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Andy Malazdrewich tossed a three-hitter to lead UCT to an 8-6 win over Brockies to square the best-of-three East End A final at one game apiece in the Brandon Minor Baseball Association.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Gene Hodgson of Kenton fired a second-round 74 at the Shilo Golf and Country Club to win the Westman Invitational golf tournament by four shots over Grant Coulter of Brandon.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Tyrus Cobb scored three goals as the Minnedosa Triumph stormed back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to beat Minot 4-3 in the Brandon senior men’s soccer tournament. Ty Burton scored the other goal for the Triumph, who advanced to the A-side semifinals with the win.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Neepawa Tigers’ tired legs couldn’t keep up with Kyle Martens and the Virden Golden Bears. After a first-week bye, the Golden Bears scored the last 27 points of the game in their Rural Manitoba Football League season debut to top the injury-depleted Tigers 48-22. Martens finished the game with 242 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Mack Adams was unstoppable, leading the Vincent Massey Vikings to a resounding 41-9 victory over the host Miles Macdonell Buckeyes (1-1) in Winnipeg High School Football Kas Vidruk (AA) Division play. Adams rushed for 282 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries, including an 85-yard touchdown, while Massey (2-0) quarterback David Bachewich completed 5-of-10 passes for 71 yards and one TD.
