• 40 YEARS AGO — Jeff Holder started the 10-pin bowling season by earning a chevron from the American Bowling Congress for his all-spare game of 173.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon United Cougars will be in a must-win situation next weekend as they attempt to qualify for the Winnipeg Premier League boys soccer championship in the under-15 division. The Cougars edged the Bonivital Flames 3-2 in round-robin playoff action at Optimist Park. Trevor Bauche scored for the Cougars, who need to win both playoff games next weekend to earn a berth in the final. The Cougars now have a 3-2 record in the round-robin.
